Here is the stimulating topic of the week:
Debut authors/ New to me authors. What books have you read lately by new authors that you want to read more from?

Earlier this month I read Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton. That book was great. From a historical perspective, the narrative is well researched (partly from experience as Chanel comes from a Cuban-American family herself). I also found the story gave a fairly balanced political perspective, something that is not easily accomplished when writing anything about Cuba’s history. Look out for my review soon.
At the end of the book I noted that the author is set to release a related novel next year, When We Left Cuba. That book will focus on the story of one of the great aunts of the protagonist in Next Year in Havana. I’m very intrigued….
In 1960s Florida, a young Cuban exile will risk her life–and heart–to take back her country in this exhilarating historical novel from the author of Next Year in Havana.
Beautiful. Daring. Deadly.Â
The Cuban Revolution took everything from sugar heiress Beatriz Perez–her family, her people, her country. Recruited by the CIA to infiltrate Fidel Castro’s inner circle and pulled into the dangerous world of espionage, Beatriz is consumed by her quest for revenge and her desire to reclaim the life she lost.
As the Cold War swells like a hurricane over the shores of the Florida Strait, Beatriz is caught between the clash of Cuban American politics and the perils of a forbidden affair with a powerful man driven by ambitions of his own. When the ever-changing tides of history threaten everything she has fought for, she must make a choice between her past and future–but the wrong move could cost Beatriz everything–not just the island she loves, but also the man who has stolen her heart…
I also discovered that before she turned to historical fiction, Chanel Cleeton amassed quite a collection of contemporary romance stories. I may try some of those too!
Any recent new-to-you-authors you’d like to read more from?
I loved “Prez: A Story of Love” by Margaret Garrison. Her sister-in-law, Cathy, is a member of my P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) chapter here in Virginia. She published the book, her first, in 2014. She, Margaret, gave a wonderful talk at one of our meetings in March.
Sounds interesting. Going to look it up.
Thanks!
Here’s the link to my Book Review, if you’re interested. No spoilers!

Very interesting premise. A female university president in 1990… I like it.
Thank you! I thought so too. Let me know if you decide to read it.
Will do
Only just found the comment you left with the link to your review. It went into spam. very annoying! Will check it out.
At the moment, no.
I also had this author and book on my list. I really enjoyed it, and I am looking forward to the next installment. Thanks for being a part of TMST this week.
It was fun.
You have some lovely books on your list. I tried commenting over there but for some reason my comments weren’t going through.
