Spanish Lesson 22: Gracias

Inside: Saying “Thanks” in Spanish.

Bienvenidos a la clase de español.

I’m sure at some point in your life you were lectured about the importance of saying please and thank you. If you lived in my family, you certainly would have! Interestingly, ‘gracias‘ is a Spanish word most people recognise and can easily pronounce even if they don’t speak the language. There are several expressions that use the word gracias and many lovely sayings too.  I’ve compiled a short list of expressions using the Spanish word for ‘thank you’.

Oh, what’s the expression for ‘please’?

¡Por favor!

Here’s a bonus expression. If you’re a “Tico(a)” from Costa Rica or if you’re just passing through, you’ll definitely hear the expression, Pura Vida. It can mean please, thank you, you’re welcome, cool, hello, good bye, that’s great. It’s an optimistic outlook on life.

Until our next class…

¡Pura Vida mis amigos!

I remembered at least 5 ways to say “thank you” and two ways to say “welcome”. Pura Vida is beautiful! Thanks for this week’s lesson.
